MTC Jokes

Six-year-olds are famous for jokes and riddles that make you groan because they're so lame. It seems that MTC teachers never grown out of that stage, as I will now illustrate.

Q: Why do the Lamanites eat their food off of the ground?
A: Because the Nephites have all the plates.

Q: Why do the Lamanites have sore legs all the time?
A: Because of all the Knee-fights.

Fortunately, President Boone, the President of the MTC, has matured in his humor. He offered this story.

Two missionaries who barely spoke the language were teaching the lesson on chastity. They asked if the man and woman they were teaching were married, and the man replied that they weren't. The elder gulped, and then said they would have to be married in order to join the church. He bore his testimony that marriage would strengthen their relationship and that they would be blessed for doing so, one of the chief blessings being the ability to become a member of the Jesus' church. A very animated discussion occurred between the couple--none of which the elders understood.

They were transferred immediately thereafter, and lost track of the couple. A couple of years after the elders returned home, one of them ran into the missionary that had baptized the couple. The baptizing elder told the teaching elder that his lesson had created a great deal of consternation in the couple. They were only in the same apartment because they lived in the same building and were taking the discussions from the elders at the same time because it was more convenient for the elders. But when the teaching elder told them they had to get married in order to join the church, and then bore his testimony, they took him at his word. They were married, and then baptized.

And my favorite line of the entire time I've been here (48 years, it seems like):

The director of the MTC, Richard Heaton, spoke to us at the devotional on Sunday night. His son was with him, and was only three days back from finishing his mission in Japan. Brother Heaton invited his son to bear his testimony. He stepped to the microphone and said, "I've only been off my mission for three days. I'm MUCH more comfortable talking to two or three thousand elders than being with a girl. Thanks for getting me out of a date I had tonight."
