Good-bye, Emily

Emily, our exchange student, left this morning to go home to Idaho after having lived in Quito for about nine months. Well, at least she tried to go home. Her flight was delayed for two hours leaving Quito, which gave her only a very short time to clear customs and immigration in Miami. We got an email from her that she is stuck in Miami until tomorrow.

We will miss Emily. But she has such a bright future ahead, having been accepted into the RN program at College of Southern Idaho. Watch out, world. Emily is a woman who knows what she wants, and doesn't take no for an answer. She left Preston, Idaho when people said she wouldn't dare, and came to Ecuador to learn how to speak Spanish, repeating a senior year in high school so she could get the job done. She speaks fluently.

Here's some pictures we took at a going away party that our friend, Sophie Martinez, threw for Emily. Sophie owns a restaurant called La Baracarola with her husband. Sophie and Emily served in the primary presidency together for awhile. Although the background looks real, I assure you it's just a mural and we weren't hanging out in a bar. Owen and Melanie were in attendance too.
