My good friend, Hermana Ward, told me yesterday that she finally saw a cat! She caught a mere glimpse; the cat was inside a walled compound and was furtively slinking along the foundation of its house. She said it was black and white, with medium length hair and looked well-cared for.
You may remember once that I asked a cab driver where all the cats in Quito were and he said, "El Bosque." It turns out that El Bosque is the rich neighborhood. I guess cats are a luxury. Barking dogs, on the other hand, are apparently a necessity, because everyone has at least one of those.
